Our strategically located research centers across South Ethiopia serve diverse agro-ecological zones, ensuring our research addresses the specific needs of different farming communities.

Areka Agriculture Research Center
The Areka center, established in 1986, is a key hub for crop research. It specializes in improving sustainable agriculture for smallholder farmers, with a core focus on enset (false banana), cereals, and natural resource management, directly supporting food and nutrition security in the region.

Jinka Agriculture Research Center
Located in South Omo, Jinka ARC is mandated for low to mid-land agriculture. It coordinates research on drought-resistant staples like maize and sorghum, cash crops like cotton and mango, and livestock development for pastoral and agro-pastoral communities.

Arba Minch Agriculture Research Center
Strategically located near Lakes Abaya and Chamo, this center leverages the region’s water resources. It specializes in irrigation agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, and tropical fruit research (banana, mango), serving multiple zones in the Rift Valley.

Sawla Agricultural Research Center
Established to address the diverse agro-ecologies of the Gofa area, Sawla ARC focuses on climate-resilient crops including enset, sesame, and spices, alongside livestock and natural resource management research to support local farming communities.

Yirgachefe Agricultural Research Center
The newest flagship center for highland agriculture, Yirgachefe ARC is the regional specialist for coffee research, aiming to enhance the quality and resilience of the world-famous Yirgachefe coffee. It also researches staple crops and natural resource management for surrounding zones.
